Participants are encouraged to fast from dawn to dusk (just as Muslims fast during the month of Ramadan). Those who choose to fast should participate to a degree that is appropriate for their age and health condition. All are encouraged to drink fruit juice as needed.

At the end of the day participants will come together to for a short worship for peace at followed by breaking the fast together with a potluck. Many churches are suggesting that this potluck feature a variety of rice dishes, since rice is a basic staple food throughout the world. Other simple dishes are also welcome.
