Dr. Watkins addressed the conference in the sanctuary of National City Christian Church on June 26, welcoming participants and calling for a movement of prophetic and compassionate Christians working with other people of faith and conscience to end poverty. Also speaking at the conference was the Rev. Dr. Tony Campolo, an evangelical Christian activist for peace and social justice who will be the keynote speaker this year at the regional assembly of the Christian Church Capital Area.The conference was endorsed by Call to Renewal partners DJAN (Disciples Justice Action Network) and DAWN (Disciples Advocacy and Witness Network), and the Office of the General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
